Volume 1, Issue 1, 2010, Pages 1

Volume 1 Issue 1 of Journal of Experimental Psychopathology is to be published in Fall 2010 and will be a special issue dedicated to research on Pathological Worrying. Pathological or chronic worry is known to be a feature associated with most of the anxiety disorders and most specifically with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), and since the advent of DSM-III, worrying has been the central diagnostic feature of GAD. Pathological worrying in the anxiety disorders is characterized by a number of distinctive features, including perseveration at the worry activity, a sense of lack of control over the worry process, a tendency to catastrophize the worry topic, and concurrent feelings of discomfort and negative mood which in some cases leads to increasing levels of distress as worry progresses.

This special issue will include empirical studies, review articles and theoretical papers designed to provide the reader with some of the most recent research into pathological worrying. Contributions will cover the role of clinical constructs developed to explain pathological worrying (e.g. metacognitive beliefs and intolerance of uncertainty), the relationship between pathological worrying and physical health, pathological worrying in children, adolescents and older adults, and the relationship between worrying and negative mood.
